Families had the chance to come back in the classroom this week as Herne View Primary in Ilminster invited families to join in lessons and experience learning with their children. Joining in lessons ranging from phonics to writing and mathematics, families experienced how children are learning in the classroom and the knowledge and skills they are needing to develop to meet the expectations of the national curriculum. There was lots of fun as the adults joined in and the certainly for the older children there was the great challenge of seeing who got the most right in the maths questions challenge. Claire Oaten, Headteacher commented, ‘As a school, it is important that we are engaging with our families and sharing what we are teaching the children so that families are part of the learning journey with their children. We’ve also been sharing question prompts to help families get their children to talk about their learning at school as well so that families can support the learning in school and help children understand the importance of what they learn for future learning and careers.
