This year saw another year of Herne View supporting local causes by organising the Community Drive for IMEX 2023. 14 organisations ranging from carnival clubs, local causes like the Ilminster Defibrillator Appeal, the Town Council and our own PTA uses the morning to speak to the community about their cause and raise awareness.

This week, Herne View were proud to host the final of the Inter School Poetry Recital Competition for the Ilminster Literary Festival. This is a competition the school have run since the festival started and this year around 120 primary age pupils took place across the area. The standard in the final from the 7 schools represented was very high

Do look out for our Herne View and Apple Orchard scarecrows which we have entered for this year’s Ilminster Town Council competition for IMEX. The theme was ‘Best of British’ and we have scarecrows ranging from Thomas the Tank Engine to Guardsman and London Bus and finally a Teddy Bears’ Picnic.

All the children were gifted a special Coronation gift by the Ilminster Town Council which consisted of a mug, wild flower seeds, a flag and a bag, all with the logo of the Coronation on them. The children were delighted with their gifts and huge thanks go to the Town Council for their generosity and thoughtfulness. The school also held

Following on from our Coronation Craft morning we hope the town will enjoy looking at our work to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III which is now on display in Tesco and the Arts Centre.

Over 200 family members joined us recently for an inter generational Coronation Craft morning. There was lots of fun making paper chains, bunting, crowns and portraits and the Art work will be going on display in school and in the town.

We now have an editorial and reporting team made up of Year 6 pupils and they have created a newspaper featuring current events in school and activities for all ages of pupils. From Monday 20th -22nd of March 76 children from Herne View Church of England Primary School set off on their first ever residential adventure to Bristol. For two nights and three days the children from Year 6 explored many of the cultural highlights of the city from Brunel’s SS Great Britain  to Tyntesfield National Trust, with stops at the M Shed
