The children of Herne View Church of England Primary School were recently visited by children’s author, Clare Helen Welsh as part of their official School Opening celebrations.
Clare used her soon-to-be-released book, ‘Sunny Side Up’, to show the children that when you change the way you look at the world, the world you look at changes and even things that seem impossible can become possible! In her book, there are flaps shaped as glasses so the children made their own glasses and decorated these with a variety of colourful gems and sequins which they then proudly wore during our afternoon assembly.
Older children in the school had the opportunity to receive expert story writing advice from Clare who used some unusual items such as greetings cards, fishing nets, magazines and doodles to help the children generate inspirational ideas for a story.
