Headteacher's Message
Welcome to our school and I hope you enjoy exploring our website.
Learning should be fun for children and we strive to give every child a broad, balanced and enjoyable curriculum that lets them reach their potential and experience learning, both inside and outside of the classroom, in a range of creative ways. We are very proud of our new school, Herne View Church of England Primary School and the educational offer we can make to children in Ilminster and surrounding villages. We offer a commitment to developing the whole child including a focus on social and emotional development.
Our Christian ethos underpins all of our work and helps us to create the friendly and caring atmosphere that is felt by the whole school community. We want to nurture and support children in their first years at school so that they leave us as confident and independent learners, full of curiosity and wonder for learning and ready for the next phase of education.
As a school we are fortunate to be in the heart of our community, Ilminster and benefit from many local opportunities to learn beyond the school site, often with the support of local community groups.
Our curriculum includes all classes accessing Forest School and having an ongoing commitment to Arts and Sports education. We talk to our children about future careers and life skills and can offer extensive facilities for a primary school with swimming pool, outside Forest School and gardening classrooms, Gymnasium, and cookery, STEM/Design Technology and Art rooms. As a split site primary we ensure children across both sites can access the full range of facilities and we are fortunate our sites are close together and in easy walking distance.
All classes in EYFS and Key Stage 1 have no more than 30 pupils with a teacher and learning support assistant team available for every key stage and we can offer single age class for all in Reception.
Our Apple Orchard Pre-School which is also available on both sites, offers excellent care for 2 to 4 year olds and we can also offer wrap around care before and after school for children who attend Herne View Church of England Primary School and Apple Orchard Pre-School.
Our commitment to our pupils is shared through our ’30 things to do at Herne View’ which can be read via the link below.
If you would like to find out more about the school or have any questions please contact us via the school office.
With best wishes
