STEM Ambassador visit

Children at Herne View School in Ilminster enjoyed an exciting visit from Engineer and STEM Ambassador, Charles Sparey recently. Charles spoke with the children about what it is like to be an engineer and outlined the different sectors within the industry. Another highlight was when Charles gave a summary of the history of engineering, including during ancient and Victorian times. Arranged by the school’s STEM coordinator April Elliott the visit helped the children see the relevance of their learning for the future and Miss Elliott summarised the day by saying, ‘The children had lots of interesting questions, so maybe some of us will be engineers one day, too!’. The children were all enthused by the visit and afterwards commented:

Myrtle said, "It was really fun learning about all the different types of jobs that engineers do."

Samuel said, "Charles knew so much about engineering and has lots of experience."

Lillie said, "This visit was a really good learning experience and might inspire children to want a career in STEM."

Freddie said, "It was really interesting, especially when we learnt about the history of engineering. My favourite part was about the Victorians, because I love learning about the past!"
