Parliament Week

To celebrate UK Parliament Week, Herne View Church of England Primary School held a debate to determine the school's favourite biscuit.

The Bourbon Party, The Jaffa Cake Party, The Jammy Dodger Party and The Party Ring Party went head to head to try and persuade their constituents. With a large audience of KS1 and LKS2 classes, the parties' spokespeople did a superb job of making their opinions (and objections!) known. After a tense democratic vote, The Bourbon Party were announced as the winners. Of course, everyone enjoyed a celebratory bourbon!

"I think my party did great in the debate and we deserved to win - I can't wait to see what the next debate could be!" - Jacob, Coker Class (The Bourbon Party)

"We thought we did well in the debate and it was mean that the other parties tried to claim that we should be disqualified because apparently a Jaffa Cake is a cake and not a biscuit!" - Beth and Logan, Coopers Class (The Jaffa Cake Party)

"I found it really enjoyable even though we didn't win because it was a lot of fun representing our class in front of the rest of the school!" - Albert, Gatcombe Class (The Jammy Dodger Party)

"I'm a little bit disappointed that our party didn't win but I do kind of like bourbons!" - Claudia, Kingston (The Party Ring Party)

Our thanks go to Miss Swinson and Miss West for their work in co-ordinating this with colleagues and it proved a fun way to understand democracy and British Values for our pupils.
