Chinese Dragon Dance Workshop

Last week, Key Stage One and Foundation Stage children at Herne View Church of England Primary School in Ilminster embraced the vibrant traditions of Chinese culture with an exhilarating Chinese Dragon Dance workshop. Designed to celebrate the rich heritage of China, this special event was perfectly timed for the Year of the Snake, bringing an unforgettable experience to our youngest learners.

The Dragon Dance, traditionally performed to ward off evil spirits and symbolise good luck, long life, and wisdom, took centre stage. Guided by a professional dancer, the children learned to perform this captivating art form using a traditional Chinese dragon, parasols, and fans.

The day was filled with excitement as the children mastered intricate moves, explored the cultural significance of the dance, and celebrated teamwork and creativity.

This workshop was more than just a dance lesson – it was an engaging and educational journey into Chinese culture. We’re incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and effort our Key Stage One and Foundation Stage children showed in bringing this beautiful tradition to life at Herne View!

Leah said “I loved using the fans to pretend to be a peacock, it was really creative”

Alfie said “I loved talking about all the different animals”
